Water Flowing in Small WaterfallThe Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works (DPW) provides the City of Amesbury with a variety of services related to the field of Municipal Engineering. These projects range from water, sewer and drain construction to roadway construction and site development.

Services

The services provided include the following:

  • Maintain control of the City of Amesbury's watershed, including Lake Attitash, Meadowbrook Pond, Tuxbury Pond, Newton Road Weir, Powow River, Lake Gardner, Clarks Pond and Millyard Crib Dam
  • Assist in the oversight of the City's storm water management system
  • Review the design plans and construction documents for subdivision developments; site developments; water, sewer and drainage systems; roadways that become our resident's neighborhoods and the communities businesses
  • Assist Planning Board consultant engineers in the oversight of subdivision construction to insure compliance with City standards within areas that may be presented for acceptance and perpetual maintenance
  • Review Subdivision As-Built Plans and Deeds for Roadways that are proposed to the City for acceptance
  • Review plans for compliance to regulations and codes while keeping in mind that the design must be functional and maintainable
  • Oversee the implementation of the plans during the construction phase for City Projects
  • Work with and oversee the expansion of Public Utilities in existing Rights-of-Way and assist in issuing the associated Permits
  • Maintain and manage maps and records associated with Engineering and provide copies of maps to the extent possible. This includes City's maps and the DPW's sewer, water, and drain maps
  • Provide information to the general public, various Engineers, Surveyors, Contractors, Developers, Realtors and Businesses etc. that call, email and visit the DPW office
  • Review and comment to the various Boards and Committee's concerning public and private projects proposed throughout the City
  • Provide engineering support and services for the City's various departments, Boards and Commissions as needed
  • Works as a liaison for the City with State and County Public Works Departments on joint projects.
  • Coordination for meeting the new NPDES Phase II Stormwater Regulations
