Business Licenses & Permits

The City of Amesbury requires the following licenses and permits for businesses and events:

How to Apply for a License

All license forms are linked below.  After the license application and other required forms are completed, they can be brought to the City Clerk's Office, mailed, or placed in the secure drop box outside of City Hall.

In addition to the individual license application, new applicants must complete the supplemental form and the workers' compensation form (linked below). Once all paperwork and fees have been received by the City Clerk, the license application will be presented to the City Council at their next scheduled meeting. After the license application is approved, it will be mailed to you. If your license is denied for any reason, you will be notified.

The Clerk's office sends out annual renewals for all licenses. If the licensee fails to renew in a timely manner and causes a lapse in licensure, they may be required to reapply as a new applicant and it will be recorded that no such license was held that year.

Please be advised that the City Clerk's Office is not the only licensing authority. You may also need to coordinate with other departments as to the requirements that might be applicable to your business or event. The Clerk's Office can guide you though the process and put you in contact with the appropriate City Officials.

Please contact the City Clerk's Office if you have any questions or to make sure you are applying for the right license and submitting the correct paper work.
