Overview

Over the past twenty years, the area of Amesbury south of Interstate 495 (I-495) has experienced significant growth and redevelopment of housing, commercial and industrial uses. To accommodate this growth, the City applied for two MassWorks grants to upgrade the City's transportation infrastructure. The first grant of $2.5 million was awarded in 2018 to support the Route 150 at I-495 and South Hunt Road Project. This project will upgrade the intersection of Route 150 and I-495 to align directly with South Hunt Road. This project will be complete in June 2021.

The second MassWorks grant of $2 million was awarded in 2019 for the improvement of the South Hunt Road corridor. These improvements will include Complete Streets infrastructure and will leverage the construction of Maples Crossing, a $10 million Sports Complex with associated services, including a hotel and restaurants. The South Hunt Road Corridor project will begin in the summer of 2021.

Public input and participation in these projects is encouraged! At any time, if you have questions regarding these two projects, please email Angela Cleveland, AICP, Community and Economic Development Director.
